John Phillips is the President of Walden Mergers & Acquisitions, a decorated, retired US Army Reserve Colonel and accomplished business executive who has leveraged his depth and breadth of experience to build, turnaround, stabilize, and drive growth and value for mid-sized businesses and organizations.
Mr. Phillip’s career includes 15 years as the founder, owner, and President of Premier Transfer and Storage. John completed and integrated three acquisitions for his company. Mr. Phillips has been behind multiple innovative initiatives, including developing VT KnowledgeWorks, the first technology accelerator at Virginia Tech. More recently, as President of Roanoke Blacksburg Technology Council, he led a turnaround of the organization, re-established key partner relationships, and jointly developed grant proposals that transformed the financial stability of the Council.
Mr. Phillips held multiple positions in the US Army Reserves prior to being called to active duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He earned promotions and formal recognition, including early promotion to Colonel and the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, and Legion of Merit. He retired after serving as Division Operations Officer, where he planned and managed all operations for a 3,000-soldier brigade consisting of reservists, active-duty soldiers, and civilian contractors.
John is the former co-host of “Virginia Technology Today,” Radio Show, and a Member of the Congressional Service Academy Board, Virginia 9th Congressional District. For 12 years, John served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Director of the Montgomery County Economic Development Authority.
Mr. Phillips graduated with honors from Virginia Military Institute and holds an MBA from Virginia Tech. His son is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute serving in the US Army Special Forces, and his daughter is a West Point graduate serving with the 101st Airborne Division.
